This article proposes changes to address
the underage-drinking problem. I believe that reducing the age at which a
person can consume alcohol is the wrong approach. In my opinion, the most
important factor to prevent and reduce the use of alcohol for adolescents is
positive family involvement. If families
are encouraged to play key roles in determining their children’s drinking
practices, children would most likely learn to drink alcohol in a more
responsible manner. Responsible parents
are critical for children to observe on a daily basis. Personally, I have never understood why some
parents invite their own children to drink.
I would wholeheartedly vote to increase the civil and criminal penalties
for any person who provide or encourages underage children to drink alcohol.
