Prevention and Reduction of Alcohol Use in Adolescents

This article proposes changes to address the underage-drinking problem. I believe that reducing the age at which a person can consume alcohol is the wrong approach. In my opinion, the most important factor to prevent and reduce the use of alcohol for adolescents is positive family involvement.  If families are encouraged to play key roles in determining their children’s drinking practices, children would most likely learn to drink alcohol in a more responsible manner.  Responsible parents are critical for children to observe on a daily basis.  Personally, I have never understood why some parents invite their own children to drink.  I would wholeheartedly vote to increase the civil and criminal penalties for any person who provide or encourages underage children to drink alcohol.

Illegal in the United States

The Northern Triangle is a region of Central American consisting of Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador. The Northern Triangle is currently in a precarious situation because many of its best and brightest residents are migrating northward. This humanitarian crisis is a very controversial issue in the United States, Mexico and the Northern Triangle because the issue highlights the negative effect of extreme poverty on developing countries. Drug cartels have taken advantage of the lack of opportunities in the Northern Triangle by involving young children in their illegal and dangerous enterprise. The United States can again expect an influx of young undocumented immigrants entering the United States with the beginning of warmer weather in most parts of the United States.

Question for the reviewer of P.5

Project five is the last and most important project for my English class. The goal of the project is to create to create a portfolio of our work.   The project is very serious because it is the last opportunity for a student to increase his or her grade point average.   One important component of the assignment is to write a self-evaluation essay. Specifically, I would like to ask a project reviewer if my essay has both an interesting introduction and effective conclusion. I know that I have a long way to improve my writing but my primary goal is to express my ideas clearly and concisely.

My Writing Process Now

The writing projects were very important for my writing development because I was able to develop fundamental English writing skills. Nevertheless, I am determined to master the English language. The first activity, the Writing Process, was very important because we learned prewriting skills and key strategies to prevent writer’s block.  We also learned how to plan, draft, rewrite, and edit our writing.  The Writing Process is an indispensable tool that allows me to create logical and organized essays.  Another writing activity that proved to be helpful was Paraphrasing, Summarizing and Quoting.  These tools allow a writer to deftly synthesize the words of others in the writer’s projects. Using these tools, the writer can demonstrate a richer understanding of a specific topic

My Writing Process Before College

Before I began college, my writing was difficult to comprehend because my first language is Spanish. Specifically, the written context of Spanish is vastly different than English.  I determined by studying writing techniques that I consistently utilized too many prepositional phrases. The overuse of prepositional phrases made my writing too wordy.  Before I began college, I was unable to write a paragraph without making a grammatical error.  However, my English classes have been valuable because it is much easier now to review my ideas for my draft without disrupting my creativity.  Although I have a long way to go to accomplish my writing goals, I plan to continue to take English classes to improve my writing.
